Attached yourself to Allah
O you who were born by clinging to the mercy of your mother’s womb (rahim) for dear life. Allah provided for you then and He is still providing for you now. He provides for people even when they deny Him, fail to acknowledge Him, recognise Him or thank Him. If this is how He is with people when they deny Him, how will He be with those who worship Him, adore Him and long for Him?
Have you ever noticed, when you are riding on the trains, bus or driving your car, you suddenly think of Allah. You utter from your heart: ‘Allah’, or ‘Subhanallah’, or ‘Astaghfirullah’, or ‘La’illaha illallah’. This instance of you remembering is actually Allah remembering you. He inspired within you to remember Him – so it was He Who remembered you before you remembered Him. If Allah loves you, He remembers you even when you forget Him. And the reward, Subhanallah, for one utterance of Allah’s glorification or exaltation or oneness is better than this whole world and what is in it.
Why..?
Because this world is transitory and His remembrance is eternal. Even though your own remembrance was temporal, but because you remembered the One Who is Ever-living and Most-Appreciative, He made it such that His rewards will also be ever-lasting and ever-increasing.
Detach yourself from everything by attaching yourself to Allah
Can you not see, He has made you the neediest in all His creation to instil in you humility to call upon Him? He made you riddled with poverty and He called Himself Al-Ghani (the One Who is Rich without needs) and Al-Mughni (the One Who is the Enricher) so He can enrich you with His grace. He made you the greediest of His creation and seeded discontentment in the finite and material world so you would turn to Infinite and Unending to find contentment. He chained you to Paradise, by making worship and service obligatory upon you.
“He knew of the irresolution of servants in dealing with Him,
so He made obedience [ta‘a] to Him obligatory for them.
Thus, He drove them to obedience with the chains of obligation.
Your Lord is amazed at people who are driven to Paradise with chains!” [Hikam 195]
“He made the service [khidma] of Him obligatory upon you,
which is as much to say that He made entry into His Paradise obligatory for you.” [Hikam 196]
He made you supplicating and asking Him the highest form of worship because He wants to shower upon you His favours.
“Supplication is the essence of worship.” [Tirmidhi]
“When he loosens your tongue with a request, then know that He wants to give you.” [Hikam 102]
“And Allah is angry with him who does not ask anything from Him.” [Tirmidhi]
Call upon Him
Do not shy away from asking Allah, He is too Generous to refuse you empty-handed. Know that you would tire of seeking His favours but He will never tire of giving you what is better than your requests. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said that Allah All-Mighty said:
“O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you,
the human of you and the jinn of you,
were you to stand in one place and make a request of Me,
and were I to give everyone what he requested,
that would not decrease what I have,
any more than a needle decrease the sea if put into it.” [Muslim]
Call Allah for any of your needs, all your wants, all your sorrows and all your heartaches. Lay it all out, even though He knows your deepest secrets. He still wants to listen to you, He is waiting to hear from you and He, therefore, made it a command.
“Call upon Me and I shall respond to your call.” [Al-Mumin:40:60]
“When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him in his distress. I will deliver him, and I will honour him.” [Psalms: 91:15]
Allah does not speak but the truth and He never breaks His promise. So call upon Him. Be needy in your requests and have certainty that He will answer.
“Attach your hopes and fears with Him.
Attach your service and devotion to Allah.
O you who were born by clinging to the mercy of Ar-Rahim,
Cling to Him with your entire being.
And He will grant you a new lease of life.”
Another beautifully and inspiring piece Abu Ibrahim. This one made me cry.
“ This instance of you remembering is actually Allah remembering you. He inspired within you to remember Him – so it was He Who remembered you before you remembered Him”. Subhan Allah, we often feel so underserving, and reading this just makes me realise that we are not. It’s just our thoughts that trick us to believe we are undeserving. Alhamdullillah
“Cling to Him with your entire being.
And He will grant you a new lease of life.”
What a recipe for success! May He grant us sincerity in this. Ameen.
